Theater destroyed by Politicians, building remains vacant

The former location of the experimental theater club Le Madame on Koźla Street in Warsaw remains vacant after politicians from the ruling Law and Justice party used police force to evict the owners of the theater along with more than 200 sympathizers in March of this year.

Despite declarations that the building will be rented out for cultural purposes, politicians from the ruling Law and Justice party have set the rent so high that, in the words of Le Madame owner Krystian Legierski "only a commercial entity could afford to rent the building now; no cultural entity could pay such high rent." The result is that the building remains vacant and unused since, indeed, no interested cultural entities were found who would be willing to rent the area. Thus politicians have managed to destroy a vibrant theater that resulted from private initiative, driven by a sense of civic virtue on the parts of the owners and sympathizers of the theater, and replace it with - nothing. On Weds, the 16th of August, the deadline past for offers to be made in the competition for renting out the location left vacant after the destruction of Le Madame. Only one entity made an offer - the Flower of Life Foundation - but that offer was refused because the foundation was interested
