T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T is a more mature Jarzyna

T.E.O.R.E.M.A.T, directed by Grzegorz Jarzyna at the TR Warszawa theatre in Warsaw, based on Pasolini's work, is a play that proves just how much the director, long considered a "wonder kid" has now matured as an artist.

In the play, Jarzyna seems to continue taking up themes which preoccupied him in his earlier works, such as The Princess of Burgunda (1997); that is the process of change that takes place in a formalized and ritualized society that takes place under the pressures of a mysterious guest from outside whose very presence shakes this order to its' foundations. Of course, from the point of view of the grotesque poetics of Gombrowicz it is a long way to Pasolini's mystic realism. However, they share the traits of artistic, political and intellectual non-conformism, radical criticism against the forms of modern culture and civilization, the desire to expose the mechanics of every day life as being a kind of theatrical gamesmanship, a certain pessimism and anarchism, the construction of ones' own life around a mythologized figure, and above all eroticism that is dialectically connected to an obsession with death.
