Local politicians from the Law & Justice party in the Pomorski Local Parliament have accused the Director General of the Baltic Cultural Center of politicizing the Good Humor Festival that took place recently. The politicians hold that the Director General made fun of a recent speech by President Lech Kaczyński that was accompanied by a music soundtrack and directed by an MP from the Law & Justice Party. Piotr Zwara, of the Local Parliament, has called for the Director General to be punished.
The Director General, Larry Ugwu, was one of the jurors during the festival. He angered the politicians when he "awarded" MP Jacek Kurski a Raspberry Prize for "directing" the "music video" called "Presidential Speech." Zawara notes that "In our community, there are many people who are competent in Polish culture, but Mr. Ugwu is known for his promotion of African culture." Zawara also noted that he was at a loss for why a person from Nigeria was made Director General of a Polish cultural center. Waldemar Bonkowski, another politician, said in support of his colleague: "Since Mr. Ugwu has a public function, he ought not speak on political matters." Zwara continued, noting that "Mr. Ugwu has no right to laugh at members of our party, our at the President. He was born thousands of miles from here. His fatherland is somewhere else, and he has no right to speak about European affairs like the Lisbon treaty. I personally thought that the President's speech was marvelous. I know many
