Poland's Full Monty

Artistic pornography or provocation? Radosław Pazura, the thirty six year old star of one of Poland's leading Soap Operas, parading around stage naked - it's not something you expect to see every day. But in Warsaw's Bajka Theater, the final preparations are being made for the premiere of "The Full Monty," the Polish version of the infamous British comedy.

Naked actors appear on stage in almost every scene. Radek Pazura and Mirosław Zbrojewicz (forty eight years old) moon the audience on several occasions. Naturally, they try to hide their packages as best as possible, but one never knows whether the occasional slip up during live performance won't undo the best of plans? The heroes of the play are unemployed persons from Tomaszow Mazowiecki. They haven't any money, and seem lost in a world where there is no hope for further employment. In desperation, they decide to put on a male strip show. They are unprepared, but full of good intentions. It was not easy to convince the actors to strip on stage. "It was almost like the process by which the actual characters in the play finally managed to agree to do it," says Arkadiusz Jakubik, who directs the performance.
