Multi-Country Theater Festival

There are many festivals which present theatrical creativity from Eastern Europe, but for the first time we're faced with a festival whose concept and program arose in several countries at once.

The value of the festival is the the choice of plays, made by critics and experts from the various countries. The Chechs chose chech plays, the Bielorussians chose plays from Bielorus, the Hungarians from Hungary and so forth. This allows each country to confront its' notion of what is important in its' own theater with that of others. It also relates the idea of a cultural web that puts its' faith in dialogue rather than one over-reaching theme or national point of view. In this respect it embodies the ideal of the Eastern European cooperative union which is composed of countries once culturally dominated by world powers like Russia, Germany or Austria. The festival also opts for contemporary drama, which is still not as well represented in Eastern European theater as it ought to be. A great example of the cooperation between countries of our region in the realm of theater is the Tatro Theater in Slovakia, particularly the play 'the Prophet Elijah;' a contempoary play by the Polis
