Here we go again: Naked Actor Crucified on Stage/Politician offended

Should you be allowed to perform a play during chich a naked man is supposedly crucified? According to the artists from the Tomasz Cebo & Companieros group - yes. According to Senator Janusz Kubiak from the League of Polish Families - no. The Senator has accused the actors of violating religious sensibilities and of other sexual activities, and now the matter is under investigation by the regional prosecutors office.

In mid April, during the Złotowski Theater Meetings, the Tomasz Cebo & Compenieros artistic group presented a short unconventional skit, juxtaposing scenes from Mel Gibson's The Passion with a staged crucifixion of a naked actor. Although the performance raised eyebrows and received different responses from viewers, no one in the audience reported having their religious sensibilities violated. Senator Kubiak, who read about the play in a newspaper, felt otherwise and reported the matter to the regional prosecutor who is now investigating. Leszek Sawicki, the organizer of the Złotowski Theater Meetings, does not feel he is guilty, although he worries about the future editions of his event. "This is more a matter of morality and one's perception of art, not necessarily a legal matter," he says. "It's too bad that this whole scandal might put in to question the future of our event.
