The controversial theatrical group, Suka Off, who were accused of propagating pornography by Warsaw's political authorities and later boycotted by the Łódź Theater Festival, have been allowed to present their work in Łódź after all - with a catch. The purported "pornographers" will be compelled to present their play... on a movie screen.
The director of the Łódź Theater Studio, Marcian Glinkowski, explained the conditions as stemming from financial considerations, though many see this as just a cover and have taken to considering the question of freedom and limits in art. As of today, it is confirmed that Suka Off will indeed be at the Łódź Festival which, not so long ago, was intent upon boycotting the group. Unfortunately, the group's presentation will not be satisfactory, given that a "filmed for television," edited version of their newest play - 'Clone Factory,' will be presented. "The public will lose the most because they won't be given the chance to come into contact with living theater. They'll only be shown a made-for-tv version, edited in accordance with the standards of television," says Piotr Węgrzyński, the coordinator of the Suka Off project.
