Artists Debate How to Censor One Another

Why is it that Mary Magdalen stripping, or a text-message voting as to whether or not to crucify Christ seem to be more provacative than Mary with her head cut off? Artists in Bydgoszcz debated the extent to which theatre can hurt religious people's feelings recently.

The discussion was organized by the Polski Theatre; critics, artists and members of the Catholic social organization Unum Principium met to debate. The debate revolved around two plays - Tourists and the street theatre production Superstar with Jesus. Both of these plays were met with raproachment recently. In the first play there was a scene in which the Virgin Mary performed a strip teese. Artur Pałyga, who wrote the play, said "We didn't want to offend anyone. Our play is not anti-religious. In fact, it's hard to say that theatre can really offend anyone, because it's all fiction. The Virgin Mary appeared in the hero's dreams - so it's a fiction within a fiction. It's as if someone felt offended by me telling them what I dreamed about.
