"The problem is serious and you really can't afford to waste time. We're a nation of sheep! Only information and education can have any positive effect, I'm in no mood to be patient. I don't have time for it," says Małga Kubiak, Sweden's Queen of Underground arts.
Małgorzata Borkowska: In Sweeden you're called the Queen of underground art. You're well known and well respected in New York, Paris and Brussels. However, galleries in Poland want nothing to do with your work. Does this mean that Poland is not yet ready for your work? Why don't they want to present it? Małga Kubiak: It's not ready. I don't have any way of entering this market, no connections, nothing. Poland doesn't really have many adequate places either. I'm not looking for a gallery, for books I go look in a book store - it's not there, for movies, I go to the cinema - it's not there, for plays I go to the theater - not there, for discos, to the disco - it's not there. A gallery isn't going to solve anything. Of course, the Zachęta gallery ought to put all of my stuff on display, but that'll probably happen over my dead body. MB: Why?
