Clash of the Scandalists?

Krzysztof Warlikowski, once called a barbaria in Polish theater, is now considered pretty much a classic. Grzegorz Jarzyna, on the other hand, is an example of a very fast career that is also very colorful - a sort of local version of the American dream. Jarzyna battles Warlikowski for control over souls in Polish theater, writes Iga Nyc in the weekly magazine Wprost.

They are a two man advisory board to the informal organization known as Polish Theater Ltd. They are the heart, brain and brand of the country's theater. They are the national representatives in all of the important festival throughout the world. They set the direction for other directors to follow. The eyes of audiences and critics alike are focused on Grzegorz Jarzyna and Krzysztof Warlikowski. Every new play they make is hailed as the biggest event of the season. And although both of them have become less extreme over time, proof of which can be seen in the premiere of Angels in America, directed by Warlikowski and Giovanini, which was last years opera in playback mode by Jarzyna, both of them are still the most clairvoyant directors in Poland today. For years, Jarzyna and Warlikowski coexisted in a friendly manner in one theater and never got in one another's way.
